Sunday, March 24: Overcast the whole day, with a drop or two of rain
Still feeling a bit under the weather so this morning was dedicated to piecing together the Mt Cook panoramas. Got all of them done, as well as the brackets of the waterfall from yesterday. Went out to buy a pie from the supermarket for lunch, then decided I would at least have a look at the Rakaia Gorge.
Since there was no signage in Methven, landed first in Rakaia itself instead. On returning to Methven the signage reappeared and I was able to find the entrance to the gorge. Pity about the weather and my cold, otherwise I might very well have done the return walk.
Back in town had a look around at a couple of eateries and then at a sports shop, perhaps in the hope of replacing the gloves that I will throw away. Instead was drawn to the Swanndri jackets, which included a couple of duffle coats. First tried an L size, but the shoulders were very tight; XL was better and with a 25% discount the deal was sealed.
Dinner was a doner kebab – more of a beef and salad wrap than the kebabs we’re used to in Germany. At $10 not quite a full meal, so went over to the supermarket on the way home and bought a small packet of chips for a dollar as a snack for later on.
Spent the rest of the evening with the following problem: The very distant pictures often (still) have haze-induced loss of contrast. What if the contrast of a whole bracketed series could be improved just a little? Tried most that the PHP incarnation of ImageMagick could offer with very mixed results, but there is one of Fred’s scripts (redist) that seems to do a good job. Will have to see about reengineering it when I get home.
