Monday, August 20: Heavy rain overnight, clearing, becoming sunny at first, clouding over with a return to sunshine in the late afternoon, all the while very windy (N \u2192 W \u2192 N)<\/p>\n

Kayaking: 24.6 km<\/p>\n

Kr\u00e5ker\u00f6n wilderness camping<\/p>\n

Kirsten and I were up around 6:00, Kirsten for a short swim, me a few minutes later. For the first real kayaking breakfast it was coffee (black for me), crisp bread with butter & cheese from our individual caches. Bit by bit the younger people got up & had their stuff.<\/p>\n

The tent was very wet, and Kirsten applied the sponge to somewhat try drying it. The wind was doing its part as well. But things will be a bit damp for a while.<\/p>\n

Tent, cooker, boats at H\u00f6n\u00f6<\/figcaption><\/figure>Then we set off into the wind and the waves. We had to cross some longer open sections which were quite rough. There were numerous stops along the way, and finally we arrived in a place with a bathing beach for lunch (some crackers & cream cheese dip from Kirsten). I had been hydrating quite regularly and snacking on muesli bars. For today Philipp had devised a paddle saver and everyone had been fitted out with them.<\/p>\n

My back problems could be alleviated by either pressing my knees against the knee rests or shifting my posture forwards a little.<\/p>\n

Just before the lunch spot there was a very smooth & calm section but after lunch a longer open crossing followed. By now the GPS \u2013 operating on yesterday\u2019s batteries \u2013 decided to conk out so I will have to rely on Philipp\u2019s data.<\/p>\n

Passing through Brunsk\u00e4r<\/figcaption><\/figure>In a while we arrived in the holiday village of Brunsk\u00e4r where a curious bystander asked a number of questions. Then it was off on the last stretch into a secluded channel that was a bit easier and after a couple of kilometres the improvised camping ground.<\/p>\n

My right thumb blister had burst and I had a blister on the left inner foot from the crocs. Both were seen to by Philipp later. In the meantime Kirsten & I cooked aubergine with zucchini on spaghetti, which we ravenously devoured to the almost immaculate setting sun. I still have to brush my teeth & everyone else is in their tents, on the rocky ground.<\/p>\n
